Pixim's Seawolf Chip Enters Mass Market to Rave Reviews and Widespread Adoption
Pixim's revolutionary Seawolf chip was released August 2010. During the last eight months, Seawolf, the world's first single-chip, enterprise video camera solution, has seen rave reviews and been adopted by many trusted camera manufacturers. It's easy to see why:
- Boasting 690 HTVL effective, Seawolf delivers the highest usable resolution to the CCTV end user.
- The Seawolf chip provides 10 times the low-light performance of previous generation security camera chip sets as well as the industry's proven greatest wide dynamic range (WDR).
- The Seawolf chip is ideal for IP cameras due to Seawolf's global electronic shutter, progressive scan image capture, and full D1 resolution at 30 frames per second.
- Security camera manufacturers are able to use a single, digital chip, rather than more complicated mixed-signal, multi-chip sets.
- Single board camera modules based on the Seawolf chip make it easier for manufacturers to develop compact camera formats.
Below is just a sample of some of the comments Seawolf is generating:
- "From Orca to the latest Seawolf, Pixim Inc. continues to bring innovation to the chip market—and again, this one seams like a real game changer for the CCTV industry."
–Deborah O’Mara, editor, Security Dealer & Integrator - "During testing, Seawolf performed well and the images looked great."
–Tom Cashman, general manager of video products group, UTC Fire & Security - "By adding a full-line of Seawolf-based cameras, we will be providing the latest in security camera technology for our customers. They will benefit from cameras that will work in any lighting condition—from lowlight to varied to constant—right out of the box."
–Steve Baker, managing director, Genie CCTV

Pixim Releases Complete Set of Camera Module Reference Designs Based on Innovative Seawolf Chip
Pixim announced the release of three camera module reference designs based on its new Seawolf chip. The three sizes, 32x32mm, 38x38mm, and 42x42mm, allow Pixim to support all of the popular, worldwide camera module form factors used in high-volume security cameras.
Pixim's reference designs facilitate rapid development of next generation, high-performance, cost-optimized CCTV and IP cameras. The camera modules utilize the PixMate™ companion chip from Kiwi Semiconductor that integrates the functionality of five active components and their associated passive devices into a single chip, reducing bill-of-materials (BOM) cost and simplifying sourcing and inventory management.
Camera Brands Now Using HTVL Effective Specification
Pixim announces the broad adoption of the HTVL Effective specification. Over 40 camera brands are now using effective resolution, the best indicator of CCTV camera effectiveness in capturing detail in an image.
